Crooks

Every member of republican party might as well tattoo the phrase "I am a soulless, unscrupulous liar" on their forehead as far as I'm concerned.

House and Senate GOP leaders announced the "Hurricane Katrina Joint Review Committee," which will include only members of Congress, with Republicans outnumbering Democrats by a yet-to-be-determined ratio.[...]

"Congress is actively responding to the disaster caused by Hurricane Katrina," House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) said in a statement released during an appearance attended only by Republicans, after an all-GOP planning session.

What bothers me is that it's that's it's so insultingly out in the open. The republican party is not even trying to cover it up anymore. They're going to create a whitewash committee and they don't even have the grace to keep a straight face when telling a lie.

Well, they've got no other choice, really--any real investigation makes them look like shit and they know it. What's more disturbing to me than that is two-fold, and it has to do with the press.

First is that press access is being actively denied in the flood zone by the National Guard, even access to places that were being reported from just a couple of days ago. The US press is complaining about it, most notably Brian Williams on the blog he's writing for MNSBC. That's bad.

What's worse is that that same media, according to some German news sources, is actively aiding and abetting the Bush administration in the staging of photo-ops that make it look like work is being done when it isn't. One German magazine noted that bulldozers appeared out of nowhere in Mississippi, and then disappeared again just as quickly when Bush was gone (I refuse to call him President).

So it's a quandary--support the press that lies for Bush, or accede to government censorship? We've got to fight the censorship, because it's possible that the press could let something slip, or that some honest reporting could get out between the cracks.

Why should they try to hide what they're doing, they're in complete control and it's only going to get worse. That is unless the real majority of Americans rise up and take our country back.

Actually there are several ways it could play out. My prediction is that the fascist system will become increasingly abusive until it collapses of its own weight, which should be in about 10 years once oil becomes unaffordable. This time the ten year deadline is real. We now have enough information from the computerized sonic imaging of the existing reserves to know how approximately how much usable oil is left.

At that point the US military will run out of gas and the ability of the US to project power in the world will be either:

1) fueled by alternative renewable energy sources which by their very nature enforce a degree of integrity that demands a political system based on humanistic values

2) fueled by nuclear power which by its very nature is destructive to all life on earth.

I am betting that the future of the US aligns more closely with door #2. I am a realist. Only after the entire biological system has collapsed will the likes of the Bush Crime Family et al relinquish their hold on power.

As for the common man rising up to take charge, keep dreaming. Dreams can keep hope alive but they are not much good for anything else. The Marxists tried that route and look what it brought them. They thought they were instituting a utopian society but the conservative hucksters convinced them they needed a totalitarian dictatorship to implement it.

If the common man were going to play a part in the salvation of the country, it would have happened some time around the beginning of the cold war. Humans ultimately respond to boundaries, not threats. Only when we are up hard against boundaries will we change.
