The news for the last two or so days has left me bereft of blogging energy. So rather than comment on that awful terrible vicious horrifying killing of that poor kid from Pennsylvania in Iraq, I'm gonna mention two positive local stories that are worth taking note of. They're both a couple of days old, but you should look at them anyway.
The background of this story is really bizarre. Dixon is from Rome, GA, a town 70 miles or so north of ATL. He was one of those American dream stories... had a messed up, drug-addicted family, but somehow pulled himself together. He ended up with a 3.9 gradepoint average, and was courted by various colleges in the Southeast for a football scholarship. He chose Vanderbilt because he thought it had the strongest academics.
