Last night Ann Coulter appeared on the O'Reilly Factor. It was horrifying. I would make an analogy to screaming monkeys in a cage hurling feces at each other, but monkeys are nice animals for the most part. I don't see any reason to besmirch their good name. I thought about titling this post something involving monkeys. But I think it's more important that I remind everyone that Ann Coulter is a liar. And an idiot. We all know this of course, but I think it's easy to forget. Of what she said last night, some are lies, and some are just distortions. But I'm not sure I should make a distinction, since in both cases, her intent is to mislead the audience into believing something untrue.
The most important lie is this ridiculous thing about WMD. Truly, I don't understand how it is that any conservatives can claim that the US has found WMD in Iraq. Some do, but Ann has a particularly grating way of exaggerating:
COULTER: We have found weapons of mass destruction...
O'REILLY: No we didn't, not to any great extent.
COULTER: That is an important point. We have found weapons of mass destruction. That is something the media is repeatedly lying about. We have not found "stockpiles." We found the plants for manufacturing, we found the experiments, we found the room for human experimentation labs. We found lots of weapons of mass destruction.
O'REILLY: But not enough to justify what Powell said at the U.N.
COULTER: He's the only one, by the way, it's enough to justify what Cheney, Rumsfeld, and President Bush said. The one guy in this administration who made the case that turns out to have been not completely correct.
